Pressure Testing

Pressure testing is an essential part of the pipeline commissioning process, and is an industry requirement for any contractor installing or rehabbing potable water and rising mains. At Tynedale Water Services, we carry out specialist pipe testing and hydrostatic testing for clients across Newcastle and the wider North East, ensuring your water infrastructure is safe, compliant, and built to last.

This process is necessary to identify faults, leaks, and defects before they become expensive and time-consuming problems in the future. During a pressure test, a section of pipework is exposed to water pressure levels above its usual operating pressure for a defined period. The integrity of the pipework is then tested by monitoring pressure, air content, and flow volume.

All hydrostatic testing and pipe testing works are carried out to the latest industry standards. We carry out the following tests:

  • TYPE 1 Testing
  • TYPE 2 Testing
  • WIAPS TEST 1 and TEST 2

Chlorination and DeChlorination

When new water mains supplies are installed at a site, there is a mandatory requirement by the water authorities for the pipework to be flushed and disinfected in accordance with their specifications. All new or modified water systems must have this performed before they can be connected to the mains supply, to prevent contamination of drinking water.

Our experienced team provides professional chlorination and de chlorination services across Newcastle and the North East, using the latest flow proportional dosing units to achieve the ppm levels required by local water authorities. Once chlorination is complete, all treated water is dechlorinated during flushing to ensure safe discharge into the environment.

To give our clients complete confidence, all works are backed up by the latest analytical equipment and testing procedures.

Sampling

We only use UKAS-accredited laboratories for all water sampling. The process ensures compliance and safety, testing for the following contaminants:

  • Turbidity – to confirm water clarity and ensure no contamination by cloudy substances.
  • Chlorine residuals – checking the water after flushing to confirm safe levels remain.
  • Total Coliforms – identifying any bacteria that may still be present following the chlorination process.
  • Total Viable Colony Counts – estimating the concentration of bacteria, yeast, or mould spores in a sample.
  • Clarity – ensuring water remains clear and safe across the premises.

Other sampling procedures are available if required, depending on project needs.
